Conditions

We provide solutions to a range of skin conditions that appear on the face with effective treatments.

Acne

Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin condition which generally occurs when dead skin cells, sebum (the naturally occurring oil in your skin) and dirt accumulate clogging hair follicles. It is usually characterized by outbreaks of whiteheads, pimples, cysts and greasy skin. In severe cases, acne may lead to scarring. Acne is commonly found on the face, neck and chest as spots and sometimes occurs due to hormonal changes (especially in teenagers) or during pregnancy or the menstrual cycle in women. Our acne treatments take care of all acne related spots and scars to suit all skin types and tones.

Bruxism (excessive grinding of teeth) and associated migraines

People can often grind or clench their teeth due to stress, anxiety or during their sleep. However, regular grinding of the teeth is a medical condition which may cause some oral complications and even weaken or damage the teeth. Bruxism may cause jaw pain, sore gums, light headaches and even extreme sensitivity when you bite or chew.  Excessive grinding of teeth can also wear away the teeth that would require special dental Intervention. It can also lead to enlargement of the masseter muscle and a squarer face shape.

When clenching or grinding the teeth the masseter muscles of the jaw contract, during bruxism there is hyperactivity of the muscle and it becomes enlarged overtime and more bulky.  Anti-wrinkle injections can be administered to hinder the nerve signals from reaching the muscles. This eventually causes the muscles to relax and so inhibiting bruxism and thereby improving any associated migraines. In addition, because activity of the muscle is weakened it becomes smaller and less bulky thereby reducing the lower face width and giving a more desirable oval face shape.

We take time to examine the specific conditions and Dr Sall will offer her professional medical advice tailored to your specific needs.

Enlarged Pores

People with oily skin are the most prone to suffer from enlarged pores and it usually occurs when the skin pores are blocked by the deposition of the oil over time. This condition is common to all types of skin and affects both the young and old. As the oil continues to accumulate, the collagen and elastin which support the pores loses its firmness. Enlarged pores can also result from sun damage as the collagen production rate drops significantly the longer the skin is exposed to sunlight. With the use of quality products that are suitable for all skin types our skin treatment can effectively take care of this skin condition.

Lines and wrinkles

As we age the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is more evident. The body’s collagen and elastin production decreases, causing the skin to lose its elasticity and firmness, thus becoming weaker and looser.  Although this skin condition is a natural part of the aging process, it is also further exacerbated by the intake of toxic substances, poor diets, dehydration, stress and anxiety due to the release of free radicals which can attack the skin at a molecular level.

The combination of chemical peels, dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections and medical grade skin care work well together to improve skin quality and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Giving the skin a firm, smooth and rejuvenated look.

Acne Scars

An acne scar is a product of what is left behind when acne heals. Sometimes it stays in the form of inflammation or indentation and if not treated properly, could lead to the outbreak of new acne. These scares are a result of damaged tissues beneath the acne. We offer professional acne scar treatments to improve the skin texture and appearance, regardless of the cause of the acne.

Dark circles

Dark circles, sunken eyes, tired looking eyes, eye bags: can be due to stress/fatigue, insomnia, hormonal changes and even dehydration. They can also be hereditary and are common conditions among elderly males and females. A deep depression running from the nose and around the under eye can become more noticeable with age as the skin becomes thin and the fat pad more noticeable. While the treatment for these conditions depends on the cause, we have effective medically approved solutions to remedy the condition.

Pigmentation

Pigmentation is a skin disorder that describes a condition where patches of black or dark coloured pigments are found on the skin in varying sizes and shapes. It is also known as hyper pigmentation and it occurs when there is excessive deposition of melanin on some areas of the skin. Other forms of pigmentation are;

Melasma or Chloasma: a hormone-related pigmentation condition which leaves dark-shaped patches on the face and arms. This can sometimes be caused during pregnancy.

Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): coloured patch left behind after a skin condition like acne heals.

Sun exposure can increase melanin production.  Hence, greater exposure to the sun increases the risk of developing the condition. Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone can add additional years to the age of an individual, making the person look and feel older than they are. We have special treatments for all pigmentation-related issues with premium skincare products and chemical peels for all skin types.

Volume loss

As we age the amount of elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid we produce decreases and the human skin becomes looser, weaker and drier. The fat pads of our face also decrease in volume giving less support and stability to the overlying skin, hence the appearance of jowls, nose to mouth lines, deep lines and wrinkles etc. Dermal fillers are a multifunctioning treatment and can be used to restore areas of volume loss, smooth contours, reduce deep lines, wrinkles and with the development of new techniques we can lift and rejuvenate the face. They can also be used to enhance facial features such as the cheeks, lips, chin and jawline thereby improving facial proportions and creating a more contoured and harmonious appearance.
