A chemical skin peel is an exfoliating solution that is applied to the skin to peel off old or damaged skin layers, thus revealing a fresh and tender layer underneath. It is a skin care treatment that is used to repair and trigger regeneration of the epidermis and dermal matrix of the skin. This can be used for skin conditions like scaring, pigmentation, spots, and wrinkles.

The skin area is first cleaned thoroughly with an alcohol solution to aid penetration of the active ingredients. The chemical peel is directly applied to the cleaned region. 

The active multifunctioning blend of components within the peel repair and trigger regeneration of the epidermis and dermal matrix at a cellular level. This causes old and damaged skin layers to peel off revealing fresh, smoother and more even skin tone. 

The entire treatment process lasts less than an hour and the skin care professional will stay with you until the applied solution is dry in case you feel any discomfort. As the solution is applied you may feel a slight tingling or slight burning sensation. This experience largely depends on the sensitivity of your skin and the type of solution used.

Before the treatment;

• Discuss your allergies and medical conditions with the professional
• Inform the skin care expert about any medication you are taking before the procedure.
• Do not attempt to carry out the treatment on your own.
• Do not wax, tweeze, or use depilatory creams.
• Avoid artificial tanning and sun exposure 2 weeks prior to scheduled treatment.
• Do not schedule a procedure if you are pregnant or think you are pregnant.
• On the day of your treatment: Wash your face and do not apply makeup. Men are required to shave prior to treatment with a straight-edge blade. Shaving cream is acceptable to use.

After the treatment;

• Do not expose your skin to harsh conditions or extreme temperature
• Be gentle with the new skin. Use only mild skincare products
• Avoid pulling, scratching or doing anything that will affect the natural healing process of the skin.
• Keep your skin moderately hydrated as the skin recuperates naturally over the next 7-10 days
• Avoid exercises or any activity that will make you sweat for one week. 
• Follow the recommended routine skin care procedures by the professional.
• After the peel Dr Sall will provide you with aftercare instructions. These will vary depending on the type of peel performed.
• After 1-2 weeks you may resume waxing, tweezing, or depilatory creams. By the end of the second week you should be able to tolerate glycolic, salicylic, vitamin C, and retinol or retinoid products. 
• You will notice your skin is pink / red and tight for 7-10 days. The duration of symptoms can vary dependant on the type of peel performed. 

Not exactly. However, you might feel a slight tingle and burning sensation during the treatment. Nanotechnology has made this procedure as painless and as least irritating as possible even during transfer of the active chemicals to the deepest layers of skin.

Peeling does not start immediately. The skin will normally begin to peel 3 to 4 days after the procedure and this process can last up to 7 to 10 days. Remember peeling and flaking does not always occur and is dependent on the strength of the peel.

Some of the risks and side effects associated with chemical skin peels are infections, uneven skin tone and scaring. It takes time for the skin to heal completely and treatment results are often best after a course of 3 -6 peels.

Pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers cannot have treatment. The chemicals maybe absorbed into the bloodstream and could cause harm to the unborn child or the baby feeding on the mother’s breast milk. Treatment could also worsen skin pigmentation that is usually associated with pregnancy.
